Vehicle Information/Notes
Talbot 10/23 Doctor's Coupe, 1925, Barn Find
A Talbot 10/23 two seater plus "Dicky", Doctor's Coupe. It is as original except it has been partly cleaned back (in the 60's I believe), mainly the wings to prepare for a repaint. I acquired the car in 2004 when it was retrieved from a dry garage where the roof insulation had collapsed and damaged the hood and one of the wooden frame hoops. It has been stored in the dry ever since.
All the body metal work appears sound but some wood frame requires replacement. The engine is stuck so plugs are out and easing oil and diesel inserted to soak. Mechanical parts appear all there and there are some spares there.
The interior is all original and I think could be preserved and used, except the passenger finishing panel which has come off and the parts separated. The Dicky seat backrest is there but the squab is missing. All fittings and gauges appear there (including a pump which I think is to operate the headlamp dip?). These include original semaphore indicators, which are basically metal blades which swing out operated by the driver on handles attached to them. The windows are raised and lowered via leather strap as in period railway carriages.
I have not seriously examined the underside but any prospective owner is invited to come and view (Gloucester) and the car can be raised on a ramp. It moves around fine as I often have to move it in the garage for access, so tyres are all inflated and look in good condition, although thetye are at least 40 years old, but always been in a cool (not cold) garage and in the dark.
There is a continuation buff log book showing owners from 1949. From January 1953 to Dec 1956 the car was owned by Mavrogodato, who I'm told was a garage owner and an ex racer, who as well as a receipt wrote a postcard to the new lady owner saying in three years use the car had only let them down once, due to a broken valve spring; also a receipt from him for payment. I was told it was used mainly by his wife. That was the last change of owner prior to my acquiring it (although the new lady owner did get married and move house). There is a current V5C.
Some specifications: Eng 4 cyl, 60mm bore, 95mmstroke, 1074cc; 6 volt electrics, coil ignition, electric start, overhead valve, SU carb; rear wheel brakes with large drums;
I have taken a number of photos which I hope show its true state. I am happy to answer any further questions. I really do not want to part with this car but reality is I am just not going to get round to doing it, and I need the space (other projects!).
I have listed the price in Euros, but am in the UK so would like English pounds; at whatever the rubbish exchange rate is if applicable.
