This car, an AV105 saloon ("Noel Rees" Sports Saloon) was registered on 24/5/1933 as AGJ 2, and the factory records show that it was delivered on 26/6/1933 to St James Palace. Anthony Blight in his book tells of the return of the Duke's VDP Saloon because he couldn't wear his 'topper' in it, to (at least in theory) have the roof raised. Perhaps though, the Duke, simply 'swapped' the VDP for the more practical De Luxe Saloon instead? A reproduction of the original log-book (right) indicates that the car changed hands quite quickly and was bought by the Countess of Brecknock in December of the same year. Note that the Countess signed the log-book, whereas the Duke did not. Eric Powell (late father-in-law of the Lagonda owner) bought the car some 5 years later, although the datestamp is obscure.
