“W G Vining’s Clement Talbot plying for hire” William Vining started in business in Nelson NZ in 1895 as a cycle dealer and piano agency. In 1914 he started a new business as a dealer and importer of automobiles, motor cars, motor cycles, aeroplanes, hydroplanes, cycles, bicycles, velocipedes, motor wagons, traction engines and carriages of all kinds. The firm went into voluntary liquidation in 1934. WG was noted as being the first motorist to drive from Nelson to Christchurch and return in 1908 when there was no road, a distance of well over 300 miles each way!.
