Vehicle Information/Notes
The chassis for ALY was donated by John Bland's personal AW 75 saloon in the early 1970s. The project came into the hands of Robin Smith who engaged Jim Marland (later founder of Proteus Cars) to build an Alpine replica body. This was done by scaling photographs of Anthony Blight's cars. The car won several concours awards in Robin's hands. Roy Brown sourced an AV 105 engine from South Africa in the 1980s. This has been "scrapped" after completing an epic drive from Nyasaland to South Africa through war torn Rhodesia. Ian Polson resuscitated the worn engine and fitted it to the car. The car eventually ended up in Holland where it suffered dire gearbox consequences after being towed at high speed. Martin Bryant bought it as a non runner in 2006 and with expert help from Foppe d Hane has turned it into a reliable and effective touring car. It has taken part in five Flying Scotsman Rallies and is a regular participant in David Thomson's Alpine recreations. A well known and well used car in the club.
