  • When did you last use your Talbot!

Mine was last Sunday - just a trip round the block and top up with fuel after the Welsh weekend. I had a strange conundrum on the Welsh! I was parked in Presteigne High street on the Saturday evening with all the other vintage cars when an Alvis owning friend said to me " do you know your brake lights are on?" Strange as I always turn off the battery master switch which breaks the earth cable. Sure enough, on going back to the car, the lights were on! (the lights come on when using the handbrake) Anyway, I drove off to Leintwardine using the satnav which took me up about 5 miles of single track roads in the middle of nowhere. After a while going up a steep hill, she started to miss. I feathered the throttle and kept it going and after about a mile it cleared up. Having reached the campsite I decided it must be a short on the positive feed to the brake light circuit so I cut through the 2 wires. Drove home Sunday evening - about 60 miles and no problem. I later replaced both wires but could find no sign of chafing - bit of a mystery!

Wednesday 20th Nov. Visited Newby Foundries with TOC. 80 mile roundtrip with an excellent and fascinating visit. Richard Newby did us proud! About 20 people there and only 1 Talbot! (Happy to tell you that my Scout behaved perfectly cruising happily at 50 to 55mph for most of the way).

Sunday October 27th, Took two Talbots to the informal Vscc meet at Semley near Shaftesbury. Apart from my cars, Peter Godwin turned up with his Vd P tourer 105, that car's first trip for many a year. It takes place on the 4th Sunday of each month. Will be there next Sunday again but with only one Talbot. Several Talbot owners get there over the months, it would be good to see more on a regular basis.

I've replaced the battery master switch from a repro Lucas one to a waterproof much heavier duty one as I think my brake light issues were caused by this. With the Lucas one, the workings were exposed to the elements, so hopefully this should cure the problem
