  • AM75 dash - fitting an oil pressure gauge

It's been a while since I last posted and there is progress, at last on my AM75.

I want to fit an oil pressure gauge in the location of the former cigar lighter on the dash. I have the gauge and am thinking about the best way to secure it into the binnacle. There are two square section brass pillars which originally supported the cigar lighter but they are too close together and look like they should probably be removed.

I feel sure someone has done this before and I'd be interested to know how you achieved it.

I'm also going to have to carefully enlarge the hole in the bakelite. I'm aware that bakelite is fragile and will almost certainly melt with heat so, how have others done it in the past?

The following photos may help visualise the conundrum!

on my 75 saloon which I used to own, I drilled a hole in the wooden dash so that it was in front of the steering wheel. Not sure about the bakelite but I'm guessing a hole cutter used carefully might do it?

      Hello Guy
I've done the same for a temperature gauge, since I'm not restoring the Hobson Telegauge, so the oil pressure gauge has to go where the cigar lighter was. To be honest I don't imagine it will be too difficult, I just didn't want to reinvent the wheel if I don't have to!
