a few weeks ago, I took my car to a rolling road. He said it was running too rich and soldered up the main jet and reduced it from 150 to 140. I then drove 40 miles home with no problem.
the following week I took her for an mot and after a few miles she was coughing back through the carb and difficult to drive. Anyway, I passed the mot and drove home - the plug electrodes were a very pale grey. I spent the following week changing the manual pump diaphragm, blowing out the fuel lines and changing a very dirty in line filter, oh, and removing a fair bit of debris from the gauze in the feed into the float chamber. Then speaking to Fop, he suggested a 135 main jet, a 115 compensator and a 170 economy jet (mine was only 105!) . Now 4 of the plugs looked a bit sooty but 5 and 6 were still pale grey on the electrodes, so have gone back to a 150 main jet and have yet to road test it. Watch this space!
